Friends Launches New Website and Facebook Page

The Friends Foundation celebrated its 50th anniversary by relaunching its website and Facebook page this fall, highlighting the organization’s history and its past and current support for Worthington Libraries.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate this milestone than by unveiling our redesigned website and Facebook page,” says Friends President John Butterfield, who worked with a board committee to develop the website. Board member Erika Tserev developed the Facebook page.

“We have one of the best libraries in the country, and our website and Facebook page seek to strengthen the ties between our library and community and advance the library’s mission,” adds John. “We’re excited to share them with our members, potential members and donors, and the community at large.”

The new Facebook page was launched on October 10. “The original page was developed in 2012, so it needed some refreshing,” says Erika. “Our goal is to have engaging content and posts that spur interaction and sharing by Worthington Libraries’ fans who appreciate the Friends’ support.” She encourages members to follow our Facebook page and invite others to join. The Friends Foundation is also promoted on the library’s Facebook page.

The new website offers visitors quick and easy access to information about the Friends. The website has a clean uncluttered design, improved functionality and content focused on ways the organization and members are supporting Worthington Libraries. It’s visually appealing with lots of photos.

The new site has several features to help visitors get to know the organization. Visitors can read about our leadership team, history and volunteer opportunities. In honor of the 50th anniversary, there’s even a list of “50 Ways to Be a Friend.” Under “What We Do,” visitors can learn about the library programs the Friends supports financially and our fundraising efforts though book sales and the annual Books & Brews event.

“In the past, some individuals found it difficult to sign up to become a member through the website,” John explains. “It’s clearer now.” Visitors can join, renew an existing membership or give someone else a gift membership by following links for payment and an online application. It’s easy to find the various membership support levels, starting at just $25.

Making donations is also easier through the new website. There are two ways to support the needs of Worthington Libraries and its patrons – the Annual Library Grant Funds and Friends Funds at the Columbus Foundation. The latter enables the library and the Friends Foundation to partner on major, long-term projects. Both are just a click to an easy-to-complete online form. All donations are 100 percent tax deductible as applicable by law for a 501(c)(3) organization.

Throughout the site there are profiles about how Friends members and supporters are making a difference through their volunteer work, membership contributions and donations.

“We are excited about our new website and the information it provides for members, prospective members, and community members and leaders,” adds John. “We believe our website will help us continue to build support for our libraries and grow the Friends’ membership and donor base.”

The new website was launched on September 15. Take a look around the new site, drop us a line with your feedback, and keep an eye out for more content as we continue to find ways to support our libraries and recognize members and supporters.
